Seeking Materials Manager for growing Aerospace Manufacturer.

Position: Materials Manager – Aerospace Manufacturing
Location: Suburban Portsmouth, New Hampshire (Note: This position requires a candidate to be on-site).

Client Summary:

Our client is a global, mid-sized, publicly traded, leading manufacturer of advanced composite components and aerostructures for several established and emerging fixed wing, rotor wing, missile and other related airframe and engine defense and commercial platforms. Their core strength is their ability to produce highly tailored, complex composite parts and assemblies. Their products enable their customers to use lightweight, high-performance composites in applications where they previously have been restricted due to complex performance or geometry needs.

We are seeking a candidate with strong experience managing the flow of materials on a day-to-day basis. Ensuring materials are ready for every shift, collaborating closely with the Operations Manager and Engineering Manager to ensure daily production runs smoothly, and working closely with shop floor operators to understand challenges and drive continuous improvement. Material flow is managed in SAP, and the ability to use SAP or similar ERP system to manage materials is a key aspect of this role. This position has 3 direct reports, and the ability to lead, mentor and provide positive team support is important.

This position resides within a division of our client which spans 3 global locations (New Hampshire, France, Mexico). This position is open to backfill a retirement. At a strategic level, this role reports to the Director of Supply Chain based in France. On a day-to-day level, this job reports indirectly to the Operations Director in NH. This position will interact with 2 Supply Chain Manager peers, located in France and Mexico. The position will have 3 direct reports including a Warehouse Supervisor (who has a few hourly reports), Production Planner, and Buyer/Planner.

This role includes a competitive salary, annual bonus plan (which has exceeded the “target” 6 out of the past 7 years), Profit Sharing, Paid Vacation, PTO Package, and full benefits.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Supply Chain to create and manage Supply Chain strategies in support of expanding business plan. Manage day to day activities to support Aerospace manufacturing facilities located in New Hampshire. Develop and support systems, processes and procedures to maintain sustained company growth.
  • Support Master Planner to build the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on the customer demand and inventory build plan.
  • Pilot the incoming material flow (Raw material, Consumables, non BOM material) to keep material stock in accordance with production plan. Ensure the adequation between needs and open purchase orders. Define the safety stock and re-order point for all items.
  • Pilot the storing and warehousing of all material to ensure quality and guarantee the appropriate storage management (FIFO, LIFO, Sled date monitoring).
  • Work closely with suppliers, procurement, and internal departments to effectively manage VMI, min/max items. Streamline activities associated with all subcontracting activities.
  • Achieve Supply Chain objectives by analyzing warehouse operations information for contribution to strategic plans and reviews. Prepare and implement plans for efficient, safe storage and distribution of material.
  • Provide MRP Support, monitoring material demands/purchasing activities to minimize inventories and protect customer need dates.
  • Owns the accuracy of the Physical Inventory of the site (Raw material, Finished goods, Consumables, WIP).
  • Generate and submit timely reports where required. Ensure supporting documentation is managed effectively.
  • Develop working relationships with internal and external customers and complete activities timely.
  • Must be collaborative, can successfully manage the Supply Chain team and be able to interact with all disciplines including Program Development, Customer Service, Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, Customers and Suppliers.
  • Accomplish the recruitment, selection, training, coaching and counseling of employees. Develop and implement staffing strategies required to support company objectives.
  • Evaluate performance of Supply chain team.
  • Drive people’s engagement according to company values (Safety, Accountability, Integrity, Respect, Passion, Innovation).
  • Drive internal audits on Safety, 5S, risks exposure on shipping/receiving area to guarantee a safe workplace for company employees.
  • Guarantee procedures application and drive actions to be in accordance with our internal standards and external procedures (must all internal/external audits with minimal findings and no majors).
  • All other duties as assigned.

Primary Position Requirement:

  • Bachelor degree highly preferred (exception possible for a candidate who exceeds all expectations). APICS, CPM or other related certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years career experience in a Materials Manager (or similar…i.e. – supply chain, purchasing, subcontracts, etc.) role within a regulated manufacturing environment is needed. Note: More experienced candidates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Ideally seeking 2+ years of leadership experience, in a Supply Chain Manager (or equivalent) role, leading a team of direct report and developing (hiring, mentoring, developing, etc.) high performance teams. Candidates with less than 2 years’ direct leadership experience or who have not directly managed a team and can prove they are ready to step up into a leadership role may be considered.
  • Strong experience from within a just-in-time or lean manufacturing environment, including direct procurement experience related to supply chain and commodity management, capital expenditures and including exposure to strategic sourcing methodology is required. Related Lean Manufacturing skills also required (RCCA, 5S, Kanban, FIFO, Lead time, Takt time).
  • Strong experience with production scheduling, resource planning, stock and material management, LIFO/FIFO, and physical inventory control is required.
  • Strong experience with complex MRP systems is required. SAP expertise is preferred.
  • Strong experience collaborating within a cross-functional team environment (with leaders in Quality, Finance, etc.) and strong related Project Leadership skills to drive cross-functional collaborative efforts/results is required.
  • Demonstrate experience assessing internal risks of designs or processes that limit supply chain operations and demonstrate experience driving swift action plans to avoid production stop due to material shortages is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with (i.e. – successful negotiations, successful conflict resolution, etc.) people external to the organization (i.e. – suppliers, customers, etc.).
  • Must be willing to support a limited amount of travel (~ 1 or 2 trips to France/Mexico and ~1-2 trips to US based “sister” facilities annually).
