Seeking Commodity Manager with experience in highly regulated markets.
Position: Commodity Manager – Aerospace IT
Location: Salt Lake City, UT; Rochester, NH; or Greater San Antonio, TX. This role is primarily on-site at one of these 3 facility locations, with some opportunity for hybrid work schedule.

This position is critical to managing indirect supplies for our client's organization, with a particular emphasis on IT-related procurement. The individual filling this role will need to have a strong understanding of supply chain management, procurement, and government regulations, along with the ability to negotiate effectively and build strategic supplier relationships.
Our customer is a mid-sized manufacturer of composite parts and aerostructures, offering intricate, customized solutions for military and commercial applications. Their solutions enable lightweight, high-performance composites in previously impractical areas.
Position Overview:
The Commodity Manager, Indirect Supplies reports to the VP of Procurement and collaborates with department and purchasing managers globally to ensure cooperation with the Global Supply Chain Group. This role primarily focuses on IT-related purchases (hardware and software) with a secondary focus on supporting the legal team in insurance risk management.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
- Negotiate Supply Agreements/Contracts: The manager is responsible for negotiating supply agreements and contracts to drive cost savings and efficiency. Savings should be tracked regularly.
- Develop Purchasing Strategies: Develop and direct purchasing strategies for various indirect commodities, including hardware, software, financial services, legal services, insurance, information services, professional services, and backup for travel and energy.
- Price and Cost Analysis: Conduct price and cost analysis for commercial contracts to ensure competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
- Procurement Agreements: Review and finalize various procurement agreements as required for the organization's operations.
- Purchase Order Management: Create and issue purchase orders for the procurement of goods and services.
- Invoice Resolution: Resolve any invoice issues related to the procurement of indirect supplies.
- Supplier Performance Management: Manage supplier performance and develop strategic relationships with suppliers, particularly for Shared Services accounts.
- Reporting: Report monthly on activities related to Commodity Impact across the organization's sites, including savings achievements through monthly statistics and quarterly summaries.
- Complex Problem Solving: Solve complex problems that are crucial to the organization's success and use experience to negotiate the best prices and terms.
- Supplier Risk Mitigation: Manage supplier performance and risk mitigation activities, including quarterly business reviews, supplier scorecards, and supplier risk assessments.
- Payment Terms: Manage the variance process for payment terms and address overdue payment issues.
- Efficiency Improvement: Continuously improve the efficiency of commodity procurement through various means such as supplier agreements, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs, vending programs, and utilization of blanket/framework orders.
Primary Position Requirements:
- US Citizenship or Permanent Residency: Due to the nature of the work, only US Citizens and US Persons (permanent residents) will be considered for this role.
- Education: A bachelor's degree is required.
- Experience: Minimum 4-10 years of experience in a Commodity Management focused role is required, preferably from within a regulated manufacturing industry.
- Commodity Experience: Experience related to IT (Hardware/Software) is preferred.
- Government Procurement: Familiarity with government procurement regulations, including FAR/DFARs, is preferred.
- Software: Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP, is preferred.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a self-managed team environment. Experience reporting to an off-site manager is a plus.
- Certifications: Possession of certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or APICS (Association for Supply Chain Management) is considered advantageous.
- Availability: Be prepared for occasional evening and weekend work, as well as the ability to respond to phone calls within a reasonable time frame after regular business hours to support a 24/7 facility environment.
